I have just bought an R and wondered what is the availability (and cost) likely to be on an SE type suspension set-up. The bike is used for road use, but I might do a couple of track days next year...no scrub that...forgot about those 'airbrushed' fairings

for 650 quid (including postage) just got me my sp forks completely rebuilt (including straightening and rechroming) with Maxton GP-2(?) cartridge internals . A bit pricy but in the long run I think about same as tracking down SP or SE forks in good condition....Although I now have a set of SP forks and half a set of SE forks sitting on the shelf next to the rvf400 frontend that I have just taken off the bike.
Hardest thing I had was trying to find stantion tubes in good condition hence the spare forks....
Oops sorry no offer there unless you really want to pay postage for a set of shocks all the way from Oz. THe price Maxton charged me included close to 100 quid for shipping as well as the rechroming/straightening of a stantion. Do a search on the discussion forum for the differences between shock (btw . . . i have a feeling this topic belongs there as well )
I didn't make an offer. You offered them to me at £650. I replied that if, and when, I sold my RGV I would THEN be able to afford your offer. Nothing more nothing less!
And please forgive me for asking a question about the forks, I should have known better. It's just that you seemed to be a knowledgeable sort of person.

Apologises! Sorry for crossing wires there, didnt mean to come across as a dick. What i was trying to say that for about 500-550 quid, you could always get maxton to rebuild your existing forks with one of their cartridge kits. Its just another option that is out there. Trying to find a good set of SE or SP forks is not that easy due to the age of the bike and that the forks are used as an upgrade to cbr250's. It took me close to a year to get the ones that I have and that was a combination of buying from people here and from Japan and then mixing and matching parts to get a good set and even then they needed to be rechromed. I also had to use Tyga for a new lower leg.
I ended up getting an aftermarket rear shock (wilbers) that is also fully adjustable. Age of the existing SE/SP shocks would mean they need a rebuild (if they are?) or an aftermarket one. There is quite a bit info on this subject here on the forum, you just need to do a search to find it..... most here know way more than i do.
It is still possible to get new R stantions BUT they are NOT compatible with SP or SE forks....how do i know this.... I have a set of those as well
SE and SP will give you adjustability (front and rear) plus the SP come with a little blue dial on the forks for wank factor
There's really nothing much wrong with the R forks and shock, as long as they're in good condition.
The forks could do with some heavier oil maybe and the rear shock can be a little spongy, but for road use they're fine.
MC21 SE/SP forks are the same. They offer rebound damping adjustment, but to be honest it's typically (can't really mess it up) Honda. The adjustment doesn't do a great deal.
MC28 SE/SP forks are different. The SP forks have an internal type damper rod that controls both rebound and compression (to a small amount) on the same twiddler.
Std SE/SP rear shocks only seem to work well with the twiddlers at almost max adjustment (for me anyway).
