I had a look at a mc18 today(pic) and it looked smart( I have not seen it in person). The guy wants about £750-£800 Is it worth selling my mc21 to be able to buy this
nsrmonkey wrote:but isnt the 21 the quickest and the lightest of the NSR range
No, the '16 is the lightest, they got heavier and heavier ever model.
'21s weigh 6kg less than the same '28 and standard have about 5bhp more, most of which Tyga got back by just swapping the flywheel, but the '18 was 5kg lighter than the '21 and the '16 was even lighter still, all models before the '28 claimed exactly the same 45bhp as the law required.
Dunno how much you can lose by replacing the pipes etc, my original pipes weigh a ton, the Tyga ones even with the cans attached weigh nothing, the original subframe isn't exactly featherweight either, nor is the seat unit, the Tyga frame is tiny and the Tyga tail nearly blew away in the wind I'll wager good money my '28 (put back togeather) weighs less than your '21 (put back togeather).
There's clearly nothing in it really, the '28 was just further restricted as the law dropped the power to 40bhp (from 45), I just had to have a '28 as I'm a posing fool and have wanted one for ever, like when I got my RVF, clearly no better than a VFR but so what? I wouldn't sell the '28 even after all the pain it's being, FFS my speedo flashes SP and HRC when I put the card in who cares if the swingarm weighs a few kg more, it looks good _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
i went for a ride with jamiekellard today and my 18 is quicker than his 21sp,i cant pull on him when we open it up,the gap stays the same but as we get towards the power mine pulls harder and im able to catch him and pass,i dont know what gearing we are running,he is running jha pipes and a m-max box, mine has stock pipes and a modified air box but stock jetting,i dont know what jetting he has but i think it must have been rejetted because of the pipes ,i think he would need to do the airbox mod.
what about this then,we both had full tanks when we started out and then later on refilled at the same time, his took £5 to refill and mine took £10.50 worth to refill, can this difference in the amount of fuel used be because i have a modified air box and his has a stock one?im just surprised to see how much fuel i used compared to jamie.
My '21SE is much more efficient than StephenRC45's MC18.
I am on stock 15/42 gearing, and he is on a 40 rear I believe, and on a rolling start (1st gear at around 20mph) 1st gear is pretty much identical, then in 2nd I'll will gather some pace, 3rd and 4th I'll blitz him, then in 5th his accelleration is identical to mine. In 6th he very slowly starts to reel me in, but by that point it's too late and it's all over!! I don't know many circuits with a straight much over 1 mile, which is our test/plug chop straight, so that'll do nicely for me!
He is carrying a few (cough!! ) more kilos than me though, but hey, his MC18 is lighter... not that much lighter though!! _________________ Andy.

hmm,i must be about 3 stone heavier than jamie,i think he needs to do the airbox mod as when i did mine it was from 9000rpm onwards when i noticed the real benefit of opening the airbox up.Today is the first time that i have seen a 21 close up and i didnt think that apart from the swingarm that they would be that different to look at,i through that the differences would be suttle, but they are dramatic,i liked the look of the 21 from photos but now ive seen one close up ive realised how nice they are,im going to have to get one as well.
Unfortunately, for all those in denial, it's the truth! The barrels are the best design, as are the electronics, the chassis is the stiffest, and it's only marginally heavier than the '18, which is easily rectified!!
Not that I'm biased, of course!! _________________ Andy.

I'm going to guess the fuel difference is just a setup thing, if you run a modded box (or no lid, or pod filters ) the jetting is going to have to be soo much on the safe side, flat out the bike just wants more air, if it can get it, it's going to take it and the fuel as well.
Economy and power are not good friends, look at the MotoGP, they're struggling to do 80 miles with 22 litres of fuel, that's about 17 mpg which is absolutely appalling for a 1 litre 4 stroke bike, the current crop of in-line bore superduperbikes will do over double that, the teams are paying a heavy price for squeezing that last 70bhp(!!) out of the engine. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread

But efficiency and power are!
Maybe my MC21 is just more efficient than Stephen's MC18? We both run HRC jet kits, pod filters, and race chambers! He runs without the boost bottles, and I run an HRC head conversion.
Stephen's drinks the juice like a sailor on shore leave, mine's more like the lads having a few on a Friday afternoon after work, for the same effort! _________________ Andy.

Within reason yes and maybe yours is more efficient then Stephens, but outright no, more power will burn more fuel, it is as good on fuel as a toally standard one? And Stephens has to haul him up the road too don't forget plus that many seizures have probably got him running the jets out of the space shuttle _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
