I found this page for PGM 3 repair. It is in Japanese, I tried to auto translate and you can probably figure it all out if you're patient. Now, if someone could properly translate it, that would be much better. Basically it shows you how to repair the PGM3 if you fried it because your valves were sticking. Here's the link:
hey pitty there arent more site telling us how to repair the electronics on these bikes. are thos transistors the only thing that goes on the pgm when it goes like that?
I'm in process of repairing my pgm 3. Only one of the four transistors burned on mine. There are two different sets of transistors. I think the part number is 2SA1385-Z and 2SK1059-Z. The part that burned on mine is 2SA1385-Z. The part is on back order so I can't test it out yet. But I was going to do the same way that link showed. Cut the legs and solder it to it. Looks like that's the only way to do it. We'll see when I get the part.

I have a small collection of u/s p.g.m.'s if you want something to play with. One has no powervalves functioning and the other two have powervalves but no spark???
RC valve transistors are quite easy to replace, it just takes a while to carefully remove all the potting. I've got a couple of the transistors left over, but I'm not fixing any more PGMIII's just in case my super chipped F3 PGMII blows it's cookies.
I had to order the parts and they took a couple of months to come, but come they did and a PGMIII with dead valves was fixed. Yep, I was pretty chuffed.
If there's no spark fro the PGM then you'll probably find that one of the big caps has blown and oozed it's goo all over the place. I tried replacing one of these too. It took ages to remove the blown cap and then remove another (undamaged) cap from another blown PGM, and then solder it onto the legs of the first PGM. Fiered up the bike and it worked for about 2 seconds. Then sparks flew and the cap exploded. At that point both Paul and I jumped for cover and decided that we'd best put that in the bin. I've since tried again on another blown cap, but with the same results, so it wasn't the cap blown on it's own, but something else causing the problem.
Did you check polarity before installing ?
Electrolytic capacitors have + and - pins and will blow up when reversed. _________________ Poul

That could explain why the replacement went pop (unlikely though, as it would probably have (a) not worked off the bat, and (b) I doubt Matt would've installed it incorrectly), but it would definitely NOT explain why the original Honda factory item died.
It stands to reason that if the factory component failed, and then a replacement component failed, that the fault lay elsewhere and the capacitor failure was a consequential result. _________________ Andy.
