anybody wishing to use rs carbs must bear in mind they will also need rs manifold rubbers which will need minor modifications to fit of an earlier rs as the latter ones will not fit they might take a bit of sourceing

..and there is the small matter of the TPS. I know people do run without it working but as its there it would be nice for the thing to work. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
pre 93 inlet rubbers need no modification and the carbs and manifolds bolt straight on. You only need to replace the 4 middle bolts with 4 shorter ones the same as the 4 outer ones on the original manifolds... _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
I looked at alternative carb rubbers, 'cos pre '93 ones are hard to come by now...
The RGV250 VJ22 RH carb rubber is about the right angle, would need a plate made up (I was going to use petrol/heat resistant plastic, or alloy) so it can be adapted on and angled outward
The 38mm carbs go into the RGV rubbers OK, just put the rubber in hot water for a bit first, and put some rubber gease on the carb end first then assemble and let it set.
If you have the carbs out for a couple of days at any stage, you'll have a dog of a job getting them back in..... _________________ The Chopster
I turned up at a race in malaysia and my mate was riding an F3 MC21. As I walked into the pit garage he thrust a set of PJ38's in my hand and said "here ya go, fit these for me"
"This can't be done" I decared. "you need the RS insulators"
"Ah just shove 'em on and see what happens" was his answer to that.
So...I just shoved 'em on, sorted the cables, gave it a push and bugger me it fired right up.
Seemed to be running a tad fat on small throttle, so slid in some leaner needles and it ran pretty good.
Matey hopped on board for the race, which was an anything goes SP250/400 class, and got a good start. Third into the first turn, then passed everything to lead at the end of the first proper straight.
He diced with an F3 TZR for half a dozen laps then threw it in the bushes.
Just goes to show that you don't even need the RS insulators. Well maybe not. Looked a bit hideous with the carbs all crammed in there on the wazz and touching each other but it did work.
Matey managed to lead the race for several laps with funny angle carbs. I wasn't convinced either about their performance at that angle but it worked.
I shan't be taking the RS insulators off my bike to put the stock one back on though. They're supposed to run at 'this' angle so that's how they're staying.
