I'm Javier from Madrid.pleased to meet you.
I'm proud to say have recently purchased a MC18 form Japan. It's the black with the SEED colours.
I allways loved this bike. I just received the bike today.
The speedo says it has 10k so i have a good premolition with this bike.
The fairings are a bit bronken but the chassis and engine looks real nice.
I'm cheking all the stuff before the first start up oil, spark, gas, battery.
Soon i'll post some photos, i'm repairing the fairings as they almost fall off.
I have to charge the battery it won't start, but i still haven't seen were is it
Any tips to flood the carbs so it starts easily?
Hola, the battery is under the seat,do you know how old that battery is?It might be better to buy a new one,at least you will not get problems later if the one in the bike now is finished!Try using full choke, and no throttle when you start it.Best of luck.
I had 2 stroke bike but not like this one. I was looking for a 500 but it was far away from my budget.
I want to check the engine first off all to see what needs to be done and the i'll try to purchase all the stuff at once.
The bike does not have user manual so i have to read the forum to understand the bike.
I've see there is a rotating knob near the choke lever, what's for? for oil supply?
I'm really ansius to go for a ride .
Thanks again, i'm just getting started.
Today i went for a try as i left charging the battery.
I pulled the choke lever and started by hand until i could smell the gas in the exhaust.
Then I turned the key and started to kick but it didn't start.
I repeated the operation three times without success.
So I took off the lower spark plug and tested the spark and there was also some gas on the plug.
I'm thinking in pouring some gas directly to the carbs with a syringe to help her to get started.
I finally could start it, it took hours for the first time but finally pouring some gas directly to the carbs and a feeding bottle.
The tank is a little clogged so it needs some clean.
It would start by hand, but the lever comes back very hard and i almost twist my wrist at first attemp, pitty that the lever is missing teeth.
I have to change the clucht oil .Wich one you'll recomend please?
Regards,
Javier.
I would suggest that you first get the basic information for your bike from various web sites. nsr-world is a great source with loads of info, also Jamie's web site. There is even an MC18 Honda workshop manual as PDF on the web. This saves you from a lot of frustration when no one answers your questions...
For the gearbox oil,you can use any good brand,I use Motul Transoil.,use .7 litre.Perhaps remove the carburetors, and clean them,if the bike has been unused for a time,it's advisable. Also check, clean or renew the air filter.New spark plugs will help too.Make sure you use good quality 2T oil always!
Many thanks for your replies, they are very apreciated.
I didn't wanted to diassembly the whole bike but it seems to be necesary to leave in fair good conditión.
The bike is very good shape but most of the rubber parts needs to be changed.
The bike sounds very good,it has the original exhaust.
I have a few neighbourgs who like old bikes and when i started the bike they sudendly appeared to see what was going on.
They were astonished with the bike, here there are very few of them.
Thanks again i 'll post the process when i get some improvements.
Today i received the welding sticks for the fairing repair and i also purchased a repair kit for the carbs as they seem to leak a little.
I'll do it in the weekend and post some photos of the proccess.
I've seen the carb assembly is like rocket science, i hope i can get it RFT.
Any tips for the carbs will be apreciated.

That'll surely have flooded it, and soaked the spark plugs...

Yep, thought so!
If you get the plugs wet, the spark will track the fluid, and not jump the gap. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Yesterday i had finally my first ride in the R5K after 8 months laying in the garage, as now is road legal.
I have been registering the bike since the purchase in October, but finally is done.
I have installed the oil pump, but for more security i placed a 2% of oil directly to the tank, and now the bike is very smokey.
What's the correct mix %? 2% or 4%?
It's the firts tank i have used after the purchase so i thounght it will be better with extra oil.
It starts at firt kick in the morning after 2 days so i think the engine is in good shape. I went for a 10km trip and the bike feels very nice and sounds superb.
At firts i stalled the bike a few times in first gear till i got the feeling of the clucth and revs but then it was all ok.
I need to check some parts as the fork seals and the front brake pads & rotors. I also need a new rear tyre, this one is new but it has some cracks because of the time, is was manufactured in 2000.
Here's a pick i hope you like it.
Cheers
There is no need to add 2T oil to the fuel tank if the oil pump is adjusted correctly and functioning as it should,in fact it is a bad idea!Get a new set of tyres, get out on the road, and enjoy your NSR!
