I have a prob with the belly panels in that they are held together by tape and locking wire, every panel for sale seems to have the same prob with the tabs broken off etc.

Has anybody come up with a better neater solution as it looks a mess and makes it more awkward to take off the panels ?

I've used the lower fairing brackets off a Kawasaki ZX7R before. They are a plate with captive nuts each end. It of course requires drilling of your lower fairings but does look neat.

It's been along time since I had an NSR, but I seem to remember making up two alloy plates fitted with rivinuts and bolting them to the fairing lowers. You do, obviously, have to drill the fairing lowers to suit but as Stephen says it does look neat.
Nice M5 dome headed Allen screws or even the small Philips screws that hold the infill panel between the fairing lowers would look good.

Thanks for your suggestions I will look in to it, it does seem drilling the panels is inevitable, the original idea was OK whilst new but once the plastic aged and some rough treatment the outcome was bound to be broken bits.

I'm in the process of repairing a MC18 fairing and i'm using some ABS welding sticks and a hot air welder to repair the cracks.
To restore the tabs or refill gaps the i'm using a 2 component clay to mold the shape required and then i melt the sticks in to the mold. Once the tab is molded to fit in place i weld it to ther fairing again using the hot air welder, then with a little file i remove the waste so it adjust to the original shape.
As the whole fairning needed some restore i'm taking more time than expected, but if you want i can make a little description of the process with some pics to help.
I also bought a kit of plastex repair kit, it seems to work great but i haven't tried yet.
If you don't haves access to a hot air welder you can use a meddium/large soldering iron to weld the plastic.

I'm just finishing the job, i've been taking photos of the process.
Tonigh i'm going to edit the photos and i'll post them for you.
It's not the best repair i've seen but it isn't the worst.

I had the same issue with my MC21. I bought some thin sheet alloy and made up a bracket to go in the bottom of the fairing. I had to drill holes in the fairing but they were broken anyway. I used small screws and washers to attach rather than rivets. You can't see it from the top and it supports the hole thing much better and stronger than the flimsy plastic tabs. My side fairings now come off as one piece as well (it does work) which takes a bit of manouvering but works fine.

Hello JaviNSR, thank you for the information, I have drilled both panels, small holes, and are going to use cable ties to secure them together, the ties come in different colours and also sizes and type.

I have sorted out a couple of the original brackets so it should hold.

Sorry for the low res pics , in my garage there's not enough light. BTW i have fitted them in the bike by now .
I have started with the bike registration process and i had to assembly everything quickly for the inspection.
When i finally get my plate in going to paint the fairings nicely and i'll get back with a good quality resume.
