I know this sounds like one of those stupid questions but please bare with me….
What are the approximate dimensions of the translated MC21 workshop manual that is endorsed by NSR-WORLD??? (height and width)
The reason I ask is I bought a manual from that auction site that was reportedly a 'Factory Reprint'.
It was a bit small, (approx 7" x 9") and I found it hard to read the wiring diagrams. Also it had two chapters missing!! So I have sent it back and I'm waiting for a replacement.
However….I have since learnt that 'Factory Reprint' is a meaningless term and the only translated manual comes from originates from NSR.net.
Something funny going on here methinks.
I bought one through Charles in America. Cost about £105 delivered.
Is in a black binder and pages are approx 11"x8.5".
Good print quality and easy to read.
You gets what you pay for I'm afraid and the rip off merchants on flea bay generally have inferior products.
Hope you get some joy regards money back.
Thanks for that mate, I though it was a bit fishy!
So members beware, this manual from auction sites is a shonky rip off:
(it might be half the price but it is half the size and quality)
Well I have the manual you talk of and it has proven to be very useful despite its foibles but it is expensive being that it is not a genuine Honda publication, it is quite good for a copy though, when I say copy it is purported to be a translation of the factory manual.
There are a number of sites that do downloads of manuals and for a lot less you could get the same information.
Also there is a lot of information on numerous web sites about the NSR range, I would go this way and save a hundred quid.
I have bought the Honda books and despite being in Japanese they do have a use particularly the Parts List which can be had for about a tenner on an auction site (No Names No Pack Drill), the manual is a good bit more but worth it because of the illustrations.
So for a little research you could save a significant amount of money.
There is also the info to be had on this company site for paid up members, you lucky people !

You pays your money and makes your choice.
Dux.
Dux, are you talking about the manual I translated? As I never said it was a direct Honda product and that I spent many hours translating the actual honda manuals, cross referencing materials to make sure it was as accurate as possible. Not sure what "foibles" you are speaking of, but I have had very few complaints (outside of cost of shipping, which is out of my control).
It's funny, from day one of owning an NSR, people complained and wanted an English version of the Honda manual... No one really took the time to do a quality job of the complete MC16, 18, 21 manual and no one even attempted the MC28 manual (not sure why, it was much smaller and easier to translate due to it's layout). So I took it on myself, translated each and every page, spent even more time cleaning up the images and then laid out the manual exactly as it is from Honda, making it a direct reproduction of their manual.
As for the copy floating around on e-Bay, ye some little sh*t bought the manual from me and then copied it and is making copies to sell. Obviously not as good quality as what I produce. I use 21-22lb weight 96 bright white paper, have card stock front and back covers and this is all bound in a VERY heavy duty rubberized 3 lay flat 3 ring binder. The page size is standard US 8.5"x11" paper. The layout was done for that exact size paper, so when printed it prints as it should.
As for the paid site, Andy and I have spent the past 15+ years putting the information together for NSR-WORLD.com and NSR250.net. We have worked together to bring people a place where they can get technical information about the bikes they own. Andy and Stephen started a tuning service a couple years ago based on their knowledge and experience of these bikes. We feel that we have done a decent job in keeping the site in the nature of the original concept, while allowing Andy to have some portion of the site available for their tuning shop.
From the start we were careful about who we let openly peddle their business. We NEVER just allowed people to come on here and advertise their own business, as a way to protect owners from questionable businesses. We have seen too many people rip others off and we only "support" those businesses that we have done business with ourselves and they have proven to be reliable.
There are those that don't like what we have here and go other places and bitch about how the site is run and would rather we just provide everything for free and let anyone and everyone post up what they want and potentially allow users to get screwed. Well we won't be doing that, it's our site and we will run it as we want. Users who don't like it have an option, they can go elsewhere and get information. People tend to come back to this site, as it has the most accurate and detailed information around. I guess that's why our information is copied everywhere else
So if you don't like, why do you keep coming back? Is it to complain (as it seems you have a lot of that) or is it because you know this is the best site with the most information and the most knowledgeable people to ask questions about NSR's from? Maybe I can make your choice a little easier and ban you from the site? Oh, but then you would go to other forums and complain about how you got kicked off here for being a whinny little bitch... _________________ Charles Gallant
The foibles I am talking about are all the spelling errors through out.
Complain for the sake of it, NO! but if you cannot accept constructive criticism it would be better not to leave yourself open to it, the manual hasn't been proof read, if you translated it then and we have to accept that you definitely needed another person to correct the script, it is Honda photo's but the text spoils what would have been a exceptional asset.
After your diatribe it is not difficult to find areas of error in the organisation.
So somebody copied your copy did they, THAT WAS NOT ME if you are intimating so, but it is an idea though, I do know there was somebody in Singapore advocating that, if it was a good effort more power to him, personally I haven't seen the copy you talk about.
"The Best Site" well it is the biggest for sure but as many others have said the information is out there but not always in the same place, YES there are other sites out there StephenRC45, obviously the pull for NSR World is the business that uses it and naturally people would like to keep the information and the engineering aspect together, but there are instances of people sending items for work to be done and a minimal response to e-mail requests as to how and when the pieces would be returned.
Why do I return, it is because the members posts are of interest to me and if it is possible to maybe help someone it is worthwhile.
But unlike you and that other "King of the East" I do not find it necessary to be so vehement in my posts.
Ban me if you like but NAME CALLING is really a sign of having a poor argument and poor conversational skills, anyone reading your remarks who has an ounce of intelligence will no doubt think Charles protesteth too much.
Why do I return to this site, well it isn't always to complain despite you wishing to create that impression, the site is the members as far as I am concerned although there are a few with misplaced loyalties, they are probably expecting to gain favour in some way.
If you proudly take credit for the manual perhaps you should go through the text but don't expect to gain a "Booker Prize" any time soon, the spelling would put it in the comedy section.
Complain about getting kicked off your site, there would be no need as the situation is known to all and sundry.
It seems Sly Fox is interested in point scoring a very ridiculous and inane pastime something that adults do not usually participate in.
Being retired and tired the site is a source of interest and at times amusement but I haven't actually had cause to use anything from it as yet but who knows one day.
If you get to the UK I can give you my address that would give you the opportunity to vent your spleen in person or make yourself look even sillier.
Your response to me was OTT, my post was quite reasonable, but of course I had forgotten the ethics of your site.
Come on DUX let's be fair about this. I don't call £10 or £25 for titanium membership a lot of money. I obviously don't know your financial circumstances but I know I aren't made of money.
I'm only a carbon member but £10 is only the price of 3 pints in my local pub.
Personally I think the guys do a great job of running the site and I think Charles in particular deserves to make money out of a project that must have taken a boat load of time to produce.
As I said at the start, maybe you can't afford to or maybe on principal you choose not to subscribe and support the forum that you obviously visit regularly.
All I can say is that I don't think it is fair to copy and then sell a product that someone else has toiled over.
Maybe we agree to disagree.
My not being a paid member is not a question of the money, I joined and before committing looked to what the benefits of membership were, the posts of the members is my interest as any work done to my bike will have to be done by someone else, this is galling as I worked as an Engineer so would like to do all the work myself, that is unfortunately no longer possible.
Be Fair, well it wasn't a question of being unfair and anyone who goes to a lot of trouble deserves the reward.
My post was giving an alternative to the usual, I believe in the freedom of speech and the freedom of choice and that people should be aware of what is or isn't available to them, it was a bit tongue in cheek and the reaction was predictable but I do object to name calling and of labelling someone in a way to discredit them.
Mr Gallant took me to task particularly of my mention of the manuals foibles, factually it is full of spelling errors not something I would expect of something costing £100.
If there was strong conviction there would be no need to have responded to my post at all !
Thank you for your post it was at least reasoned and in no way offensive.
