Long term goals

Tue Mar 10, 2015 5:24 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I am thinking of buying pipes
My long therm goals will be to put a mc21 hrc tt-f3 motor in a mc28
Is it possoble to use a mc28 rotor on a hrc motor ? If it is not can you change the crank web on that side to take the mc28 rotor

Will the best pipes for a tt-f3 motor be RS250 nf5 pipes with jha flanges ... ?

The simple answer to both of those, is no.

The easiest to explain are the pipes. Just get some NSR250 pipes. TYGAs would be the easiest option, if you want new, and certainly the best performance-per-pound/dollar/baht/sheckle or whatever other currency you may work in!

The best NSR we've ever run was using DogFights. You can still get them new from Japan, but you really have to pay through the nose for the pleasure, especially if you want stainless/carbon. There are several kinds of Jha pipe... some work better than others, and the differences are quite striking! Once upon a time, I would've sworn by them, but not after 1000s of dyno runs over the last 10 years.

As for the rotor, you'll need to look into that once you really know what you are doing with the motor. IF you find a good HRC crank, then no, an MC28 rotor (of any description, including an HRC one) will not fit. Yes, you could in theory butcher an HRC crank to fit a stock flywheel to it.

Those Dog Fights came from way way back. I wouldn't be surprised if they were from the mid 90s. They ran 90-91 spec HRC silencers too.

Remember though, what suits one bike may not necessarily suit another. Different pipe characteristics also suit different conditions, tunes, and/or requirements. It's not as simple as just saying "Dog Fights are the best [on a tuned TT-FIII MC21]", and then fitting them blindly to an SP spec MC28 and expecting the best performance.

It's commendable you buying all the "right" parts before even getting the bike, but sometimes things just need to be tested, tweaked, and even discarded and replaced, before you hit the sweet spot.

I understan that the dogfighters are not the best on a SP motor . It is just easier to buy once for the end result

That's not what I said, or meant to say, if that's how it sounded, Yuri.

The Dog Fights may not be the best option for YOUR particular setup. What I said was they performed very well on the heavily modified MC21 TT-FIII of StephenRC45's.

Given the chance, we will run several different sets of pipes if we can, and use the ones that give the most desired performance.

In all honesty, I doubt when the difference between TYGAs, Dog Fights, Ethos, HARC Pro, i-Factory, or even most Jha's will be of any consequence to you.

Yours is finally running now then, is it Si? What does it handle like with those forks?
