Hi has any one seen or fitted a f3 dry clutch to a r4j before
I came across a f3 case and dry clutch and wondered if it was worth trying to fit it to my r4j?
Best wishes Xav _________________ Keeping it on the pipe
You can fit a dry clutch kit to any MC16E cases. There are minor differences between the MC16, MC18, and MC21/28 cases, but all are easily overcome, and apparent when you start to try and retrofit parts.
Of course, if you are lucky, the F3 clutch kit you have found will actually be a 1988 kit, and bolt right on!! _________________ Andy.

Many thanks for your help,
I am currently working offshore but it is on my to do list when I get home.
I heard that the seal can go hard and not seal properly on the clutch basket are new seals available?
Mine looks and feels OK to the touch and looks to be good when the basket is inserted into the casing.
What about the water pump, should I be looking for a new mechanical seal kit before I tackle the Job.?
Best wishes
Xav
It's always worth considering doing the seal in the water pump, while it's apart. Most won't have been done, and remember, you're dealing with a 26-27 year old bike now. Also, parts are getting harder and harder to source now, so get them while you still can!
You'll need to check the seal size when you have the cover in your hand, as there are different sizes. They don't often wear/leak, but it can happen. Some seals are unobtainable from Honda now, but can be matched up with automotive equivalents with a bit of research.
Check the shape of the clutch cover vs gasket vs engine casing. You will see if they all align correctly. As I mentioned already, different years have slight vaiances, but you can overcome them all. Assemble the cover with a little grease on the gasket, and you will be able to remove it easily and reuse it. Handy if you find that the oil seal does indeed leak a little, and needs replacing. _________________ Andy.
