powervalve?????

Fri Jun 04, 2010 3:47 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

my bike would not rev to redline in 5th or 6th.

so i assumed that the powervalves were not opening fully.

today i was adjusting my powervalves today using the guide.

they are now set up correctly.

but it made no difference, then i disconnected the powervalve servo in the hi position.

i took the bike for a spin and it ran fine but the midrange was terrible but in high rpm it pulled alot better.

i connected the servo again and i started the bike when in high rpm at around 10krpm i noticed that the servo is only half open.

is this normal???.

i am considering adjusting the powervalves to fully open when the servo is only half.

How easy are the powervalves to move by hand. They may be heavily gunged up and providing too much resistance to the motor - be very carefull as this can burn out your ignition unit.

powervalves move freely.
servo switches to high at around 2krpm and back to low at around 3krpm, but at 10krpm when they should be open the servo is only halfway between low and high

The only time I've had problems with the engine revving out was when I forgot to re-connect the TPS after a jet swap.

Perhaps have a look there.

tps is on the side of the carb, hence the name Throttle Position Sensor! lol

My fault, should have spelled it out.

The Throttle Position Sensor is there to tell the ignition unit (PGM) how far open the throttle is, which modifies the timing map for the spark plugs.

It is attached to the right hand carburettor, and connects to a plug held on a small bracket to the right hand side of the frame just ahead of the airbox.

I had a very similar problem with my 28, it just wouldn't rev out past 10k rpm. Turned out it was because of two problems, firstly the little white coupler that sits between the throttle and sensor unit was missing, so the computer always thought the throttle was at 0! Secondly, one of my coils was faulty and would cause the bike to misfire on one cylinder above 10k rpm. Hope this helps.

hi thanks for all the input.

my bike revs past 10k rpm no problem until i get to 5th gear.

when i turn on ignition and let the servo go to low and then turn off ignition and then if i disconnect the tps and turn on bike the servo does not move.

in the guide it says that the servo should go to high setting????
