Hey Everyone! I am new to the boards but I thought you could help me with a decision about buying an 89 NSR250. I am in the US where the bike is very rare and never imported, I am sure parts will be difficult to find. I am not even sure I will be able to get the bike registered as it has no title/paperwork at the moment, but damn they are cool looking bikes I love the little 2 stroke streetbikes, I currently have an 84 RZ350, two RD350's and four RD400's.
Here is the original ad placed by the seller:
it is an 89 with 15,000 kilometers on the clock.......never raced.....motor, tranny seem solid......frame VIN has ( ithink) has 11 digits on it.
Black market NSR-250 MC-18 street bike. Two Stroke V-Twin motor with oil injection. Never imported into the U.S. Powerful motor in light weight aluminun perimeter frame. Triple disc brakes. Motorcycle is 90% restored and has all parts. It is mechanically sound and runs fine. Has been stored for 5 years in my garage and I don't have time to finish it. It has NO paperwork but it would not be difficult to license and title as an "assembled" motorcycle. Needs to be painted and all bodywork is primered and ready. Many new parts. Picture is a generic photo, not of the actual bike. Serious inquiries only. $2000
How difficult is it to find parts like gaskets, clutch plates etc...?
Thats about £1200 i think.....bit steep for an 18 over here but I hear they are rare over there.
I would say it was worth the money if it was titled but I would look into that before I bought it, there are a few Americanos who come on here regulary I would hang on and see what they say.

Hi KenC and welcome. You might contact your local DMV and ask about getting it titled. I would also try to get actual pics of the bike. As far as parts go, Tyga Performance can get about anything if your local Honda shop can't. You can find specific part numbers here on this site in the parts manual.
The title issue comes up a lot. You might find some useful info by doing a site search.Hope that helps. _________________ To much HP is barely adequate!

What do you think?

Hi Ken, and welcome to NSR-WORLD.
Most parts for the MC18 are still easily available, and some parts (some engine internals for example) from the later MC21 and MC28 models can be adapted if necessary.
A title on the other hand is not necessarily an easy thing to come by. I certainly wouldn't say the seller's wording "It has NO paperwork but it would not be difficult to license and title as an "assembled" motorcycle." is very accurate! If it were that easy, he would've already done it, and added $1000 value to the bike!
Where are you located? My understanding is that it's easier to register a 2-stroke in some states than in others. _________________ Andy.

I bought my MC21 a couple of years ago in GA and the BIGGEST benefit was the fact that it was already titled. Not sure how it was done either. I called my DMV several years ago and was told to forget it. It wasn't going to happen. There are several states where it's apparently real easy to have it title. Maine I'm told is pretty easy. If you knew someone in Maine that could have it titled and then "sold" to you.............transferring is less complicated. On the other hand even then you should contact your DMV first. I remember one owner telling me he had bought an NSR with a Texas title and the GA DMV would not let him transfer it due to the small VIN number.
There's a reason the current owner is telling you it's real easy but he hasn't had it titled!

i hope you mean "dirty" as in "that girl looks dirty" LOL
funny how the states have a problem with 2Ts when they are one of the top three polluters in the world. _________________ MC21SP - Roth-tax
