I use the standard stuff from halfords and mix it down to 50/50 with water.... Not tap water but distilled, ive just refilled it but didnt measure an amount just made up a batch and poured it in pumed the hoses to try and release any air, refilled started the bike and repeated the process a few times to get the air out!

Ill add a question on here incase anyone else chips in, is there a way to bleed the cooling system, or will it bleed itself free of any air pockets?

I use Prestone Low Tox. It's made from propylene glycol, while most auto antifreeze is made from ethylene glycol. Propylene glycol has slightly better heat transfer properties, and just happens to be the key ingredient in Engine Ice.

And it wont kill your pets. Very Happy

being in ireland with the mega cold and snow in winter, i'd throw in coolant with antifreeze in it (debatable anyone?). If you can drink your tap water its good enough for an engine i reckon so long as its clear. Buy a bottle of concentrate from your local bike shop and mix it up to their spec's one litre at a time and add.

would have thought bleeding it would have been done by running it to operating temp without radiator cap on and giving it a few revs. shut it down with cap on let it cool down check radiator water level.

Thats what I'd do....
hope this helps champ

Rockoil Kool here. Already mixed... just chuck it in!

Fill the rad' up till you can't get any more in, pull the bike over on it's side stand and watch for bubbles, top it up 'till full again!

Run the bike for a few minutes to get it up to temperature, recheck the level, and top up as necessary. Once all that's done, fill the expansion (overflow) tank, where fitted, up to the lower level.

It takes what it takes!! I've taken radiators off before, turned them upside down and drained them, and then poured coolant all over my feet 2 days later even though I thought the rad' was empty!!

A couple ounces of water wetter and some distilled water. Watch the temp though as it will freeze.

So is coolant poured into the radiator cap or the overflow bottle?
I had to check the pump one day and let the coolant out from the pipe feeding the pump. Caught all of the fluid in a clean bottle and poured it back to the overflow bottle (white on the left), did as the manual said open cap> start engine> warm up>bleep bleep> but no fluid is returning to the radiator or the pipes because the fluid in the overflow bottle is not getting lower… and is also seems not a lot of fluid is getting to the pump, so I stopped and came back to my computer don’t want to over heat the thing.
What you are saying is that after bleep turn off motor and put cap on? And wait?

I wouldnt ever use tap water it is very corrosive and can eat aluminium!
I only ever use bottled motorcycle coolants which should have an anti freeze agent built in. I have a bottle of Putoline in the shed and the label says it is good to -36c and that its aluminium friendly!

Unforunately for those of us who are track bound to quote the ACU;
"The only liquid engine coolant permitted is water".

That is the rule if you race and really it's the done thing if you track day a bike at all, anti freeze and/or corrosion inhibitor are all slippy and don't evaporate, water does.
