There's nothing wrong with pattern bodywork... If it's a clean tidy bike, I'd rather have that, than tatty OE. Even most of the 4-5000 bikes being sold over here fro mthe nutter dealers and people willing to buy them have had crash damage and it's becoming more and more difficult to find a bike of this age that hasn't been down the road at least lightly, so don't let that put you off. _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
I wasn't implying that pattern bodywork is a problem, perhaps I should have said 'OE or Pattern'.
But if I was a first time buyer, I would at least want to know which it was. Particularly if the seller was asking top money for a supposed original OE spec MC21SP, possible ammunition to barter the price down.
Actually IMO, the pattern bodywork from HK / China is much more suited to go onto a MC28, as this is the shape the pattern bodywork I have seen appears to be based on.
Agree that good condition pattern opposed to trashed OE bodywork is better, on any model. I'd still want to know however before parting with hard earned cash, or comparing to other bikes on sale. _________________ Rich

Mike, you asked about pricing, well anywhere between 2K to 5K (even higher at some dealers for 28's, one shop recently sold a MC28 SP for 6.5K
Look on goobike.com (Jap bike trader type website) to do some research, they have around 100 NSR SP's listed (+ many more R and SE's), of varying age, mileage, condition. You can get a feel for price range in Japan, which seems to have some broad parallels with the UK market, if you don't consider some recent crazy UK dealer prices. Also search this forum, there have been several recent topics on UK prices, you'll find them over the first 5 discussion pages.
Try using google to search for the goobike website, then you can get a partial translation to english.
As per Maxim's note, many have been on their side at some point, mine had although I didn't discover this until after purchase. Just have a good check to ensure it runs 'straight', no ripples or creases on the frame, around the headstock etc etc. _________________ Rich

Shame it's not a mint MC21SE/SP instead. I'd have swapped it for mine, then you could've ridden the wheels off it while I polish the minter once in a while and put back under its cover!! _________________ Andy.

If you'd swap a mint SE for your bike I'll keep my eyes out for a mint SE!
It'll be interesting to see what the 28se goes for (if we ever find out), a V model (that's full power from the factory) RGV250 VJ23 failed to get to £5k recently, that's the rarest of the rare, only 358 ever made...
As regards the 21sp (ohh, back on topic!), it's all about the price and what you want, if it's top dollar and you want a minter, then make sure everything's spot on, obviously Magteks, adjustable suspension, mint o.e. bodywork, dry clutch, sp barrles etc.
If not then anything can be fixed so whatever amout of work you fancy and what you're willing to pay. I turned this into this, for instance and you can't see the knackered wiring loom, 18" rear wheel, bent, leaking mc21 forks or shot engine, all of which are present in the first picture. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
No "doner bike" but I'd got a load of bits lying around (bodywork, loom, all road kit etc.) from turning this into this.
I did run it with the Castrol bodywork in the first pic (this is it just chucked togeather) and some stock wheels last summer. The Rothmans stuff (which isn't very tidy but is all o.e. Honda), SP forks and rear Magtek (along with a load of other bits, steering lock, front brake calipers etc) all came from Yahoo Japan, the front Magtek came from Tyga.
There is a limp plan to get a dry clutch motor back in it but it runs so well I'm reluctant to do anything.
It's not broke, stop fixing it! _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Be sensible... no complete motors... nothing too big... nothing over 25kg (to be safe -- Japanese PO limit is 30kg). _________________ Andy.
