After referencing the tuning page...I am just wondering if there has been any other reed cages offered recently? Also, which is the easiest to get my hands on in the states? TIA.. _________________ '93 MC21 250sp Repsol "Doohan"
I am afraid I need a little primmer...HRC intake rectifiers? So the stock cages are fine...are the rectifiers the same as the reeds? Where do carbon fiber reeds fit into this equation? Spell it out for me...thank you.
Kit includes:
- HRC style stuffer for improved intake mixture flow.
- Reed stopper lifter plates˙to increase intake area for increased peak performance and over-rev.
- Genuine Honda reed valve˙gasket
Please order one set per engine.
Included parts: 2 x Reed valves complete, reed valve gasket.

In aother relatively recent thread, some people referred to using a spacer with the reed assembly. Is this necessary (and what effect does it have)?
I have the HRC rectifiers, new gaskets etc, but have yet to tackle the exercise in case I am missing an essential part. A spacer wasn't shown on the HRC parts diagram that I ordered from.
Intake recifyers (or stuffers) shape the incoming air / fuel mix which improves the burn.
Fitting a spacer under the reed stop raises it so the reeds can open further, which allows more charge in. Opening it too far stresses the reeds which can make them break. Not usually a problem as modern carbon reeds just get shredded without doing damage.

Thanks Dave...so, is there a drop in cage/complete assembly that is better than stock? That doesn't require the "mod". Just a removal and swap? Is the Tyga HRC copy "complete" and an improvement on stock? lastly is there a step by step on the removal and installation....sorry for all of the question but this is why I joined this forum. _________________ '93 MC21 250sp Repsol "Doohan"
Carbon reeds make things feel a bit crisper, they make about zero difference to power.
HRC rectifiers have the potential to flow more air, if your engine wants more air that's a good thing, if not all your doing is slowing down airflow, that's a bad thing.
I doubt anyone sells the whole assembly complete, but as it's just a few screws its not a big job.
Setup by step?
1; remove tank
2; remove fairing (maybe, I can get round mine, but I have taken the carbs off about a million times)
3; remove airbox
4; remove throttle cable, choke cable and uplug the TPS.
5; remove carbs
6; undo (6?) carb insulator bolts and remove insulator
7; pull reedcages out
replacement is the reversal of that. Reed cage assembly itself is obvious.
You can leave the throttle cables on and just roll the carbs out of the way. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread

I've never personally been a fan of carbon reeds, other than they have a tendency often not to wreck a motor if one breaks and gets sucked into it! I've never seen a gain (or loss) noteable enough to warrant the exorbitant expense, unless of course it's a rather old motor (early RD for example) with metal reeds!

HRC rectifiers on the other hand actually increase intake velocity and also "shape" the incoming flow, and do make a difference, but it's only really noticeable on the dyno... unless you are some kind of 250 riding god!
Saying that though, it's all the tiny differences that add up! If I took the HRC reed cages out of mine, and replaced the HRC rectifiers with stock ones, and put a standard lower head back on, and did all the other "unnoticeable little things" I would probably be back down to 60hp! _________________ Andy.

I have the carbs off etc.....I meant just the step by step on getting the reed cage out of the bike....and installing the new reeds onto the cage...no offense but you guys are way ahead of the learning curve on this stuff compared to most of us on this forum! And Andy I am not going to feel bad if your bike falls to 60hp! Thanks for the info gents.... _________________ '93 MC21 250sp Repsol "Doohan"
One thing with the HRC style stuffers as the shape of the air flow. I saw this on my flow bench.
The stock stuffers gave a sort of square block of air, but the outer petals fluttered. The HRC style opened the petals in an almost oval fashion, but the flow increase and was smoother (no fluttering)
