Kiss VS m-max VS wiresplice

Wed Mar 11, 2009 11:35 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi!

I have an m-max derestrictor in my hands and i was wandering to install it

or not...

I have done the wiresplice so it will be a messy job to do.

One friend told me that his mc21 goes 14000 with an m-max box and i

was jealous...Every dyno test ive seen power ends at about 11.200

so maybe he is an another liar... Evil or Very Mad Has anyone compared all the derestrictors on a dyno or something so we dont spend money for nothing?
Thanks

I think your mate maybe exagerating a bit.

the m max box just does the orange and blue wire splice (rc vlave), the gps slicpe that can be done is promised by the m-max box but in reality it does nothing.

I removed the max box from my bike, did the rc valve splice nice and neatly and then took the m-max box to bits.

I created a seperate loom using the m-max connectors, that has the gps splice done, so it can be put in and removed / changed as neccesary, without cutting into the honda loom.

I'm going to take the bike to the dyno in a week or so and see what differance the 3rd gear GPS splice makes in real money.

The GPS splice does nothing if the o/b RC valve splice is already done.

The M-max is a cracker!

At best it's an expensive and untidy wiresplice! The loop of wire that pretends to do a GPS splice (which, as Steve says isn't necessary on a O/Bu spliced harness*) is the icing on the cake! ROTFLMAO

* It makes about 10hp difference on a non O/Bu spliced harness.

The fact M-max got away with selling a boxed wire-splice for about £85 for so many years shows just how little anyone knew about Japanese model bikes for so long. Add that to the fact that when no-one really knew what was in them they also didn't want to waste £85 (+ shipping) just to break one open to find out!

A forum member years ago called Corrie theorised there was nothing but a cockroach in them... he wasn't far wrong! Laughing

not that you really have to break one up, just buzz it with a meter and you can see what a load of it, it is. i took great delight in breaking mine open, only to find some looped wires in a block of resin! ha ha

You have to remember it all appeared to be very mystic back then! We even thought you needed race pipes to make over 60hp back in the old days!

Of course, some 250's out there do need race pipes... the inferior ones, that is! Laughing

Stephen's MC18 made about +2hp peak with race pipes I seem to recall, but lost a HUGE lump in the middle! I think it was dialed out in the end, and you can't argue with the looks of stainless steel and the weight saving, but it's not the be-all and end-all and I wouldn't chop my Ethos chambers in for anything! Very Happy

My TYGA pipes made less than 1hp at peak but lost 8hp in the middle. I never got the middle back and ended up going back to stock pipes.

However you cant beat them for price and being stainless is a huge bonus.

Yet to infact see any after market pipe beat the stock pipes on a stock motor so its nothing to do with TYGA. The stock pipes can be a little tricky to jet too though.

you two know to much, bet youve even got hrc pajamas.

I'll have a dyno run next month and see what she puts out. newly rebuilt, cleaned up cases and tyga's. Would like high 50's (58+).

I dont want to talk about jet sizes, but stephen have you found that you can improve on the std settings for a stocker? i may order a few mains and needles for the dyno run, bit disapointing the std needleposition cant be altered, are the HRC needles mutli position or fixed?

Back on the subject, the KISS derestrictor is the one to have... It does the same as the HRC one, but can be plugged into the stock loom... (I think... Wink )
