The front brakes on my (currently exploded) MC21 are in need of a rebuild. Sometimes they grab like they should, other times it seems like they're weak, then grab after I pull on the lever harder (almost like the pistons are sticking). This is undoubtedly taking away confidence on the track as well as the possibility of crashing me, so it must be fixed.
While the bike is down for a rebuild, I'm going to clean and rebuild the front calipers. What combination of parts have worked for everyone here? I'm looking for pads & lines, but if changing the discs is MUCH better I'll check that out. I thought these bikes had floating discs but it doesn't seem that way. Not looking to spend a pile of cash but will explore all options.

HRC calipers, HRC discs, HRC/FCM pads, CBR1000RR radial M/C, HEL titanium lines, and DOT4 fluid. (Tried DOT5.1 but the seals didn't like it and swelled up causing the brakes to bind.)
Greatest improvement in feel was the CBR1000RR radial master cylinder. The whole lot combined is awesome. _________________ Andy.

Brembo radial m/c, steel braided lines and soon 929 calipers.
If you need oem caliper or m/c rebuild kits let me know. I have some extras as the last time I ordered from Japan they sent more kits than I thought I ordered.
At the end of the straight with 200kmh, two fingers on the front brake will lift the back wheel and my 90kg. Who wants more. _________________ Poul

I never really had a problem with my standard setup either, but the difference in physical "feel" with the new setup is indescribable! _________________ Andy.

I'm in the market for some ISR levers though, just for the looks _________________ Poul

I always had good braking performance out of my stock calipers, master cylinder and good quality braided lines. It's a matter of getting them bleed so there is no air in the system.
I always use a suction bleeder and bleed out both ends.
Of course my brembo billet aluminum calipers with the brembo MC, braided lines makes the RS stand on it's nose with a single finger. Took a little to get used to, and the learning experience was a little frightening for people around me. They weren't expecting me raise the rear tire that high while trying to out brake them Made them run off course cause they didn't think I was going to make it, while I took the spot from them in the race _________________ Charles Gallant
There really is nothing wrong with a properly serviced standard setup (with braided lines). Strip, clean and rebuold with fresh bits and you'll be amazed.
Spending a bag of cash will get you more feel, but are you really going fast enough to justify that?
The NSR brake setup is the same as other Honda's of that era, most of which weighed a lot more... _________________ MC21SP Plaything
