HRC & Keihin jets and needles..

Sat Sep 25, 2010 5:39 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

How can one determine the difference between HRC main jets and Keihin main jets?? I've got both HRC and Keihin brand new and in packets and they have identical markings on them..

HRC slow jets ARE longer than Keihin??

HRC needles have smaller letters stamped on them as opposed to Keihin and the letters are slightly closer to the adjustable slots at the top of the needle than the Keihin needles??

HRC needle holders have a brass ring pressed into the top??

Cause at this stage after comparing what I just purchased, which I was told ARE HRC items.. They are different to the HRC items I already had which are still in sealed bags..

Glen hi,

There are no differences between the Kehin and HRC main jets... They are identical... HRC uses certain numbers that is supposed to be used with open carbs... I don't remember the exact numbers but I think something between 170 to 215...

HRC slow jets comparing them with the MC21 slow jets are longer... But comparing them with the MC28 aren't longer... Are the same...

HRC needles are stamped with a letter A, B, or C... Each letter has a deferent profile...

No, HRC doesn't have a brass ring pressed into the top... HRC needles have five grooves where a clip goes to determine the height of the needles...

Cheers
Michael

Thanks Michael!!!

Few pics..

HRC vvvvvv

Keihin vvvvvv

What was sold to me as an HRC described item on the left, note the brass ring pressed into the top..

HRC Needles, note how close the letters are stamped to the top as opposed to the Keihin..

Keihin needles..

So it'd be fair to say that it's a waste of time sourcing HRC jets as Keihin are identical in every way..
Also are Keihin needles identical to HRC needles in terms of tapper??
What's the go with the copper ring pressed into the needle holders??

The original non-adjustable NSR needles have a thick washer permanently fixed to the end.
When you change to the adjustable needles the e-clip is a lot thinner.
The brass ring on the HRC or adjustable needle holder is just a "packer" or spacer to fill the gap.

The brass ring is actually at the bottom of the holder too. Wink

I was thinking of going the route you went by ordering the kit parts direct from a Keihin dealer. I was lucky and managed to get two jet kits before they were discontinued. I've kept all the bags with the part no.s on.

It's good info' for the forum that you are able to source these parts. Should stop a lot of people getting ripped off.

I was also going to look at fitting a packing washer to the standard needle holders, as this will be the only stumbling block to ordering up a kit direct from Keihin. Shouldn't be too difficult to make up something.
Looks like that's already been done by Gazza, he's copied the HRC X and Y pieces too. If I remember right, you can just drill out the standard NSR X and Y pieces?

So all the pieces are in place to make up the HRC jet kit for anyone wanting one.
Perhaps we need to make up a list of the part no.s to order?

What are your thoughts on this Andy?
Something just for the members section only?

I would be interested in the no.s for the earlier avgas needles myself.

I don't think the Keihin needles or (more importantly) the longer emulsion tubes are still available.

Someone a bit deft at bending a needle holder clip type thing (Andy Wink) can make one work with an adjustable needle.
Without a bit of a tweak the needle is free to float up and down a mm or so.

The ball bearing is to blank off the 2T oil feeds when you remove the oil pump.

You use one of the oil feed lines to loop between the two unions on the carbs, and press the ball bearing into the tube so each carb is then effectively blanked.

Just a thought............ I was wondering if the RS type hex main jet could be used with the standard emulsion tubes to extend the jet orifice away from the needle on it's lowest position?
I know the HRC tubes are meant to atomise the fuel better, but it could be a way for people to get up and running with the adjustable needles and get on the dyno.
I'll need to check the thread size, but I think they're the same.

That's handy to know about bending the the needle holder clip. One less thing to worry about sourcing.

Is there a pert number for the needle holder clip? Standard and HRC? There is a company in the US that seem to have stock of the needles and tubes, which i have emailed. Will let you know the response.

From what I understood, Glen simply ordered the parts with the Keihin part no. on the packets. Don't know if you can get all the different types of needle?
Give allens a call and see if they can order the needles from the part no.s.
I'll have to dig out the part no.s I wrote down at some point as I can't seem to get on to the tuning section via the links?
As Fontyyy pointed out, the parts with an HRC part no. are no longer available. Might be worth a try asking Allens if they can source them though?
