oil pump setting

Wed Aug 22, 2012 8:21 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all, I have a question for the experienced NSR fettlers. Setting the oil pump to the throttle should be a very straight forward process according to the little diagram on here... the problem is that when you read the instructions in the owners manual it becomes a little confusing. In the manual it says that you should synchronise the pump lever to start opening as the throttle barrel starts to move and that the pump lever should just be kissing the stop. But when i set mine like that, the first mark on the pump lever (the one marked on the diagram) goes way beyond the cast pointer at WOT. But the second mark on the pump lever does line up (more or less).... So my question is : am i doing it wrong or is the diagram wrong? surely not.. although the mark shown on the diagram is only about a good third of the full lever travel.... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Rob.

I'm redoing the Tech section with clearer instructions, but until then...

For the later models:

Synchronise the pump and throttle by slowly turning the throttle grip until the carburettor pulley just starts to move (i.e. take up any free play), and check the oil pump pulley also starts to move.

On the rear face of the throttle slides there are two "dimples". Open the throttle until the dimples line up with the top face of the carb vernturi, and check the first mark on the oil pump pulley lines up with the cast pointer on the pump body. (These dimples are also used to sync the two carbs.)

OK Thanks Andy. I have synchronised mine so that the pump lever does start to move as the carb barrel starts to rotate, so unless my cable is made of elastic, the dimples should also align with the first mark.... The sweep of the pump lever is determined by the radius of the cable pulley and isn't adjustable so it ought to line up.... I'll whip the airbox off and have a check.. Cheers.
