So basically I'm building my fake SP model. So far the only thing about it is the SP/SE motor. So in my efforts to continue the fake SP stuff, I was wondering if you can put SP fork caps on the normal forks? SP forks are a bit pricey and out of the question so this is just a quick for-looks thing. Plus, if I'm honest, would rather get RVF400 forks. But fork caps are relatively cheap and would improve the bike I think. Will they ft?
Thanks for that Stephen. The parts bill seems to be ever increasing... Also, the other reason I want SP caps is I bought Tyga preload adjusters without really thinking and went to install them... and a no-go.
They will fit but the damper adjuster won't do anything of course. Found a number of SP forks that are in fact just R's with tops. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...

Yeah, I wonder about that last night. Hmm, I'll see what options I have. The problem is my MC21 forks are bent (not a huge amount, but still bent enough for me to want new ones). So getting new forks I either need to rebuild my R fork (with new stanchions), by used R forks, buy SP forks, buy RVF forks (easiest USDs) or mod other USDs to fit. I guess whichever is the cheapest will do at this point. I might just use my MC18 forks for now since they're in good condition.

If they slightly bent, but not creased [at the lower triple], then there should be every chance they can be straightened without the expense of re-chroming.
Straightening is probably as cheap (or close to it) as sourcing a replacement set of R forks, I expect. _________________ Andy.

You'd need to be pretty dedicated to swap fork caps on the MC28, as the SP caps are different again to the SE. Not saying it couldn't happen, but it would be very unlikely.
Nothing's ever going to save you from a "fake" SP except possibly a Honda engine/VIN certification before you buy it. Even then, there's no guarantee it has all the original parts on it. _________________ Andy.

Unluckily for me there is a crease so the stanchions need replacing. The MC21 looked like it had been into a ditch so I was expecting bent forks. Ideally I'd put a set of RVF400 forks on (with Tyga triples) but in Australia the RVF400 is actually an expensive bike because it's one of (if not the) fastest learner bike you can get. So the next option is to find one that's been wrecked and most of the time the forks are damaged. But I keep an eye out. If any other suitable forks come available (RS forks.. maybe, I wish) I'll look into it but for now the MC18 forks will have to do!
Hmmm... building a "fake SP", and thinking of SE/SP caps on R forks, but considering NC35 or even RS forks? Am I missing something?
Why don't you just source SE forks? Easy enough to find, cheaper and easier than an RVF400 conversion, and HUGELY cheaper and easier than fitting NF/NX5 RS250 forks.
For what you'd spend on USD forks, you could probably finish the bike to real SP spec... and for what you'd need to spend on RS forks these days, professionally repaint it too! Really, have you even priced up an NC35 conversion? You need forks, triples, calipers, discs... new head bearings, seals, brake lines, fender, etc., etc., etc. _________________ Andy.

Well, I haven't done the sums but the easiest place to get forks from would be Japan... and the price difference is negligible between NSR and RVF (very briefly had a look on yahoo Auctions). Unfortunately shipping is always the killer. And the Sp model thing, yeah, not 100%. The cheapest thing would to be to just import one but I'm just putting this one together essentially for free.
