can anyone help. my nsr has been laid up for 18 months, i have done the pgm wire splice (orange/blue spliced into black n white) and the gearbox splice (4th 5th 6th spliced onto 3rd) it has new petrol new plugs and new battery, my horn, lights and indicators work but i get no spark at all from either plug when i kick it over. please help i am gutted as i still havent heard my new swarbricks. ps. it was running fine 18 months ago although restricted. please help me someone
The advice is always undo the last things you did to the point it worked.
Now. Do you mean that with the plug out of the engine and held against the block there's no spark jumping the gap, or that it won't actually start? _________________ MC21SP Plaything

no nothing at all, there is no spark either when they are in the block or when you hold them against it. i have reversed the pgm splice already but to no avail. do you think that i should breverse the gps splice, i didnt because i didnt think that splice could cause it not to spark.
Er guest, are you the same bloke as NSRMonkey? If not, perhaps you can start a new thread so the advice for one doesn't get mixed up with the other?
Anyway, they don't move like the old RD350 valves did at switch on (I used to think it was saying hello...). Once the engine is running though, they do tend to cycle back and forth at random - possibly to clean the crud buildup like the yam used to do. We don't really know!
Monkey. Have you got a voltmeter and checked that the coils are getting 12v?
It is possible the gps splice caused a problem, since the wiring is telling the PGM which ignition curve to use. It may be that it is not getting a signal at all - have you checked all the plugs in the loom and especialy checked the earth strap to the frame is rust free under the bolt? _________________ MC21SP Plaything

hi dave
sorry about the shouting, and yes the guest was me sorry again for not signing in.
i have been studying the wire splice page on the tyga site and it says the or/bu wire runs to earth as standard so i rushed home on my lunch and reconected this wire to earth and low and behold i have a spark, my confusion is now how can i deristrict my bike by cutting this wire and putting 12v into it from another feed(as tyga say to) if it needs to run to earth.
i have e mailed matt for his advice, what do you guys think
Our "wire splice" as shown in the 250 Tuning section on the Ignition page, is a tried and trusted method. It's crucial however, that the correct side of the orange/blue wire (i.e. the wire FROM the PGM) is soldered to the black/white wire! The orange/blue wire left poking out of the main harness should be left unconnected and its' end taped over. It's also crucial that the black/white wire is not completely severed - only remove enough of the plastic sleaving to solder the orange/blue wire to it.
Go to the Workshop page and check out the "delimited wiring diagram", and carefully study the step-by-step pictures in the Ignition Tuning section to verify the modification was performed correctly.
hello
i spent the evening last night tracing wires around my loom and it looks like someone had snipped the o/bu wire at some point furthur down the loom, this wire must pick up another earth (poss indicators rear light) because as soon as i re connected it i got my spark back. i also reconected my splice at the pgm and all seems good....apart from the bike will not start i have spark, compression, new fuel, 100%battery and it still wont go oh and i also have a nice bruise on the bottom of my foot........any ideas _________________ MC21SP - Roth-tax

Have you pulled the plugs again? They're probably wet from all the unburned fuel in the chamber. Give 'em a clean and dry, then try again.
It's not something dumb like the kill switch is it? (We've all done that!)
Choke doing it's thing?
Have you tried bump starting it? Often it'll fire up as you're turning the engine over more than a simple kick will... _________________ MC21SP Plaything

As Dave says, clean the plugs (make sure they are nice and dry), and while they are out, kick the motor over a few times. If the motor's not been started for 18 months, try spraying a little carb cleaner down the carbs, just to help it along a little.
I instantly thought the same as Dave, fouled plugs!
buy an rgv hahahaha. no way pedro
gotta mate commin round later to help me bump it so with any luck i will hear the sexy rasp of my new cans tonight, i will let you know how i get on.
what do you think about the o/bu wire being an earth for something else .
anyway cheers again for all ya help _________________ MC21SP - Roth-tax

If the battery has been sitting around for the 18 months along with the rest of the bike, then it could be dead, or simple low. I know it's not an electric strart, but trust me, the battery makes a BIG difference!
Even on my MC28 race bike with no choke... The battery was dead, and I could kick that thing till I was lying on the ground nearly dead from exhaustion. Then I could push that thing around the paddock area, and on;y after I got a good 20 minute cardio work out, would it start. Of course by then I was so tired, I didn't want to ride it!
Put a new battery in it, and it kicks over in a couple kicks.
Of course all the other stuff that Dave, and Andy said should be checked as well :)
