wonder how common this is? should I rebuild? where can I get parts?
also looks like some shady tree mechanic have welded the powervalve shaft, so I need the part and some advice how to replace it. Is it MC18 specific part?
yeah, no doubt it was leaking a while, I think the same shady tree mech poured some stop leak in the engine, coolant looks murky. How big of a job is a repair? Parts still available?
Just did the WP on my KTM, had to replace the shaft cause it was all pitted, bearings were toast from water seeping through, also no weep hole on KTM, all water was ending up in the oil. It decided to finally let go big time 500 miles from home. Had to stop every 100 miles to change oil and add coolant.
The water seal set is part number 19217-657-023, should check with your parts supplier to see if it's available.
you will need to pull the pump cover, which will require the replacement of the gasket. From there you will need to look at the shaft, bearings and oil seals to make sure they are still good (may need to replace some or all of these). The online parts manual shows a good exploded view of the pump and what parts to look for. The service manual outlines what to inspect for when serving the pump as well.
As for the power valve shaft. My guess is the previous mechanic had some technical difficulties with the reversed threads on the shaft and screwed it up pretty good. His solution was to simple weld the valve control arm to the shaft. Getting the valve out shouldnt be an issue if you can remove the bracket from the cylinder and pry the shaft out (its a press fit). But you will want to replace the entire setup once you remove it... _________________ Charles Gallant
MC18 parts manual is screwy, part numbers don't match description.
Do I need to pull the whole side case cover to remove pump shaft? reason I'm asking is that I was told on KTM it's just a simple job that can be done by removing only the pump cover but turned out that on my LC4 I had to pull entire pump off and remove shaft retaining clips from the back.
And yes, I know the part numbers are wrong... I already replied to your last complaint about it! When I can find my manual, I will fix it! _________________ Andy.

You guys can just walk in to the Honda shop and order NSR parts, here they don't list any of the parts, even if I give them numbers they don't come up. Can anyone recommend the source for parts that will ship to US?
There are two good places in the US for parts. RedLine Cycle Imports (see the banner at the top of the pages). The other is in your local area, RSCycles. both will be able to get you parts from Japan (if they are still available).
To remove the bearings/seals you will be required to remove the side cover, which would require a new gasket most likely. _________________ Charles Gallant
