Now, tonight I was very bored so I ventured onto the RGV250 forum. I started reading a topic in which they are trying to get 80bhp outta one of them there chocolate motors.
I can't see how we can be out done but something that must be reguarded as the most unreliable 2 stoke ever so come on lads... get working on them race bikes.
Matt@Tyga, I'm comming back in December, what do you have for sale that will spunk up my 21 abit more!
Im gonna spend some time next week on my lunch break tweeking the 21 on the dyno can see where i stand so far. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
I don't think they will get a true 80 RWHP out of an RGV and be able to actually run it for any period of time to make it worthwile.
I am sure an NSR can be made to do it, but the real task would be to get it to run 300 or more miles at race pace.
Oh and I don't see punching anything out, or mating up some non standard bore cylinders as a way to get power. That would be like dropping a V8 engine in a VW bug, and say you got 300+ HP out of a VW. Just doesn't mean anything. Stick with the stock 250cc displacement, get the power, and make it somewhat reliable, and then you got something. _________________ Charles Gallant
When grandma was a boy a hundread years ago, a young man called Jamie Whitam started by racing a RGV250 for Suzuki, now it wasnt reliable but theres used to make some real serious horsepower, granted it was on avgas and run lots of special parts and had a habbit of spitting its guts out but 80hp+ was not unheard of, actualy Chris walkers was pretty quick as well. Matt at tygas old TZR made 79 not with TZ parts but just the kit parts. Iam sure he will jump in when back from his jollys.
This could start an agrument about what it takes to get power, but these are road designed bikes with a fine line between power and reliabilaty, you will never have the both together _________________ Farting is funny
I am not looking for 80hp personally, this is for a race bike and is an effort to be beating those 400's ahem 480's again. How reliable does a race bike need to be? Surley winning is everything and should it blow up on the slow down lap who cares, if it's afordable?
There is no reason it can't be reliable anyway as long as servicing is increased. Ok it may not be ideal for touring europe on.......it's only got to be the fastest bike for 12 laps at a time.
As for Mr Gallant, there are those who say it can't be done and those who are doing it.
It is a 250 still and it's not far off as we speak.
The RGV's bad reputaion stems from it's powervalve lunching motors. People also said to me last year you won't get a new power-valve or head to make more power...............cue 11 rear wheel HP from heads and valves with super reliabilty
Luke, don't blaspheme on this here site!! And as for you Sean... You can stick to your itsy bitsy 2rpm powerbands! _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
I will, that's why I bought a 2-stroke and also why I got rid of my 300 as it was too easy to ride............300cc........great for beginners _________________ http://www.rgv250.co.uk http://www.thetuningworks.com
Hand on heart, my 250 was easy to ride... This one plain scares me! Be interesting to see your dyno sheets though... _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...

You guys have been resting on your laurels
Hardly. There's only Billy racing an NSR that I know of (in this country) and he's got ram air, so he is trying!
The rest of us aren't racing, so need a bike to last more than 12 laps.
The quick way to 80hp on an NSR is to drop the RS250 straight in. No farking about, and will last a lot more than 12 laps too. You just have to blip the throttle a bit at standstill and change pistons every couple of months.
Top speed is generally a measure of money, and if you have a fat wallet then good luck to ya. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Most of the horsepower your looking for is in head setup.Get good compression you get good horsepower.Cylinders need to be matched up for port heights(which are ugly on the NSR).Pistons can be cleaned up a ton.Single ringed is a big gain right off the bat. Also need to stuff the cases, this brings the bottom compression up.Balancing the crank, knifing the rods will bring you lots of accelleration off the corners.Lets see whats left?Oh the clutch basket, lighten it up a bit by machining and Ti bolts and washers. Its all the little things that add up.Don't run tons of oil in the tranny, especially if its dry clutch.
One of these days I need to get both my kitted 01-RS250(Ex Disalvo) and 05-Kitted RS125 on the Dyno for some work.
You RGV boys should probably pay more attention to this page and not worry too much about the power of the NSR.
